Kinnitty Church

Kinnitty Church

Dedicated to the 6th century saint: St Finian, who was a disciple of St. Brendan of Clonfert.

Kinnitty village is situated at the foot of the scenic Slieve Bloom mountains.

Kinnitty Castle, which is now an hotel was once the home of the Bernard family who are remembered on stained glass windows in the church and also by the unique 'pyramid' grave which stands o a hill just above the graveyard. This is a vault where six members of the Bernard family are interred.

The pulpit and prayer desk are heavily carved, the work as carried out by the carpenter attached to Castle Barnard (Kinnitty Castle) and we are told that every parishioner had a hand in the work.

Kinnitty is now attached to the Shinrone Group of parishes, and the time of worship is 10.30am every Sunday.
